10 Steps to a Thriving Direct Sales Business

From MLMWoman.com

Whether it’s your first direct sales business or you’ve been down this road before, everyone could use a few tips to make their business successful. So here are 10 tips that will go a long way in helping you to create a profitable business.

1. The Products – Know, love and stand behind the products you sell. If you know how it works, why it’s worth it and actually like it yourself, you’ll do a better job selling it to others. Know what similar products are all about as well. If your competitor sells a product like yours, be able to tell your customers why yours is better even if it costs more.

2. Network, Network, Network – It’s important to build a business network. Be yourself and take the time to build friendships and other contacts beyond just potential customers. Join your local Chamber of Commerce or a business networking group like Leads or BNI.

3. Online Presence – Create a website or a blog for your business. Nowadays, you are missing a huge opportunity if you’re not doing business via the Internet. One of the first places people go to find something they need is the World Wide Web and your product is no different. Even if you sell a lot locally, broaden your horizons by going online too.

4. Take Your Business Seriously – Your website, business cards, products, presentation and everything else you do in your business should exhibit that you’re serious about your business. Sometimes this will take a bit of money, like hiring a web designer to put your website together if you don’t know how. However, most of your professionalism will show in you personally, so treat it like a real business and you’ll reap the benefits of doing so.

5. Honesty is Key – When your customers feel like they can trust you they will be back. Don’t be shady or pushy in order to make sales or gain team members. When you make a mistake, admit it, correct it, and move on. Remember people buy from those they know, like and trust.

6. Accept Rejection – In the direct sales business, the word No is one you’ll hear frequently. Don’t take it too personally and realize this is just a part of this business. Keep working hard and you’ll get positive replies and more sales too.

7. Attend Meetings – Take the time to attend meetings for your team. Not only will you learn about new products and sales techniques, but you’ll receive some needed encouragement from others who’ve been where you are. Even better, you will be able to help some of the newbies on your team eventually.

8. Set Goals – This tip is extremely important when it comes to the success of your direct sales business. Setting goals and constantly working toward them will help to make your business more profitable. Set big goals and then break them down into smaller easier to achieve steps. As you work your way through your list you’ll feel like you’ve accomplished something and your ultimate goal won’t seem so out of reach. Be realistic with your goals, but don’t be afraid to set them high either.

9. Be There for Others – You will some day remember what it was like when you first started out. The help you received from others was invaluable and once you’ve worked your way up, be sure to lend a helping hand to others too. Being a mentor is both rewarding and educational. Remember: "What goes around comes around."

10. Work Hard and Stick with It – There will be hard times when you just want to quit. But remember, any business takes work and nothing happens overnight. Just keep moving forward taking small steps every day and you'll find yourself on the road to success.

Are You Walking the Walk?

Written by Rod Nichols

Network marketing is full of people talking the talk, but very few who are walking the walk. It's why the turnover rate is so high in network marketing. It's easy to talk about how great you are going to do. It's a lot harder to actually do it. Here's what it takes to walk the walk:

1. Use all the products/services - you must become your own best customer and know your products/services inside and out. If your company sells vitamins and one of your prospects comes over to your house and sees a bottle of Centrum on the counter, what are they going to think?

2. Review all the marketing materials - order one copy of every brochure, cassette, and video tape. Find those that you like and want to use. Actually use them every day and recommend that your downline do the same.

3. Attend all company meetings - training, business briefing, regional conferences and national conventions. All the leaders will be there. If you want to walk the walk, you must be there too. Plus, you will learn new things that will help you build your business and these meetings are great for prospects and new distributors.

Work hard to have at least one new prospect at every business briefing (but go, even if you don't have anyone). If your downline distributors see you there with prospects, they will do the same.

4. Listen in on all the company conference calls. Invite prospects to listen in or use your 3-way calling to include them in the conference call. Keep your downline informed about these calls and encourage them to participate also.

5. If your company has a voice mail system, make sure that you are on the system and that everyone in your downline gets on board too. This will help you to stay up to date and also to communicate with your downline.

6. Prospect people every day. Look for prospects every where you are. Encourage your downline to do the same.

7. Communicate with your upline and downline regularly. The first 30 days with a new distributor are the most critical, so stay in touch often during the first month. One rule of thumb, when you are feeling down call your upline and when you are feeling up, call your downline. Never vent frustration with a downline distributor.

8. Be a top performer. Work hard to be a top recruiter and top money earner. When your downline see's you up on the lists of top distributors or receiving awards up on stage at a big meeting, they will not only be proud to be in your downline, but will also emulate you. Leaders begat leaders.

You've got to walk the walk, if you are going to expect other's to do the same.

A Highly Effective Funded Proposal Pays You To Generate A Constant Source Of MLM Leads

By Frank Tocco

People in a network marketing business usually lose enthusiasm building their business because they either:

(1) Run out of leads

(2) Run out of money while trying to generate more leads.

A common problem with struggling marketers is paying for leads that are not responsive to the offer the marketer is promoting. Frustrated, the marketer gives up.

So, how do you generate responsive leads without going broke? Why, you get them to pay you of course. This is called a funded proposal system. In other words you get PAID to generate leads regardless if they join your network marketing company or not. It's very simple.

What network marketers want is more leads, and more cash. A funded proposal system teaches network marketing prospects how to generate more leads and more cash - exactly what all network marketers want to learn all about.

People who use a funded proposal system are able to build a relationship with other network marketers - people already SOLD on the idea of network marketing and looking for a leader to follow.

Effective funded proposals position the marketer as a leader who provides solutions to a problem, in front of people who already have a need, a desire, and are actively looking for a solution to their problem. This targets a generic network marketing crowd.

This is a business about marketing pursued by people who have never marketed anything before. They need help by someone that knows what they are doing and will hold them by the hand to show them how it is done. The alternative would be for the networker to learn by trail and error, a very costly and frustrating course to take. With this in mind, a highly effective funded proposal would do well to attract network marketers if it teaches how to market products and generate leads.

Someone who has invested the time, money and effort to learn how to generate quality targeted leads has information that is of great value to someone just starting out in MLM and needs new leads to grow their business. Leads cost money unless the method used to generate leads also generates money. This is where the FUNDED part of a funded proposal comes in.

Your funded proposal needs to have three parts.

(1) A low-cost high volume retail product for under $50 that pays for your advertising and generates a constant source of MLM leads for you.

(2) A medium to high cost backend product that pays your bills and makes you money.

(3) A network marketing opportunity that creates long term, exponential, residual income and grows your downline organization.

You see, the average person can not afford to pay for the costs of marketing their business while they learn to build it, eventually spending themselves out of business with advertising costs before their business has a chance to grow into a profit. A funded proposal generates the needed cash flow to keep the expenses of advertising going until the business pays for itself.

Most people just advertise their network marketing business or website and hope someone joins, while a true leader solves peoples problems. People will always pay for solutions and convenience. So a good funded proposal makes network marketers lives easier or offers a solution to their most pressing challenges.

If they are willing to invest in your program (even if they do not join your network marketing company ), the system pays you a commission based on the sale. So not only are you getting great targeted leads of people interested in what you have to offer but, you get a generous income as well.

"The Two Types Of People To Recruit For Your Business And How To Find Them"

"The Two Types Of People To Recruit For Your Business And How To Find Them"
The first thing we need to do is realize that "Network Marketing is an industry of marketing and promotion, pursued by people who have no idea how to market or promote."

I know that’s a bit ironic, but that is the simple truth.
95% of networkers are employees with no business ownership experience what-so-ever.

This is also why so many upline leaders teach the "shot gun" approach of making your list of 100 warm market contacts, getting information to them, and seeing who sticks... Anyone can do that.

You don't need any marketing skills what-so-ever.

The only reason you're told to make a list and give CD's or your website to 100 people is that your upline knows that you've only got about 1 or two weeks of "pumped up" emotional enthusiasm about your new business and then the likely-hood that you'll ever do anything drops down to about 30% or less.

There are smarter ways to build your business which is what Magnetic Sponsoring is all about.
The first thing we need to do is define our target market. Essentially, your target market consists of people who are already using or consuming what you’re promoting.

When I first got started with my primary company, I had just quit my full time job as a physician recruiter for hospitals and was waiting tables.

As I started talking with my sponsor about how I should begin building my business, I had the brilliant (or so I thought), idea of going after other recruiters like myself. Some people use the term 'Head Hunter'.

And why not!?
What better person to bring into the business than a professional recruiter! They have great phone skills. They're not afraid to call strangers. They interview people for a living, and have MASSIVE rolodexes of top notch people in various industries.

A week later I had found, and then purchased a list of 6,000 recruiters from around the country. I started making phone calls and mailing packets.
Two months later, I had zip. Zero response.

I didn't get it.
What could have gone wrong with my brilliant master plan!?
Well, simply put, you can't sell a steak to a vegetarian now matter how incredible it might be.

You can't market a product to someone who does not have the desire to consume it already present.

You can't sell an opportunity to someone who isn't looking for one, no matter how 'perfect you think they would be' or how much money you think they could make.

The first rule of marketing, is to sell products people want to buy, to the people who want to buy them.

Pretty basic stuff, but you'd be surprised how often people get it wrong, especially network marketers.

My lesson was learned and here is what I want to pass onto you today...
In our industry, we have two target markets:

The first is our potential business partners.

This target market consists of one primary group of people: Other network marketers, or people who buy products and services related to building a network marketing business.

That's it.
My best advice is to only market to people who are currently in network marketing, or who used to be in it.

Can you go recruit your brother, neighbor, doctor, co-workers, or your Uncle Bob?
Yes, but that should be a "by-the-way" activity, meaning that if you happen to run into them and peak their curiosity, great.

But you should never, ever make those people the primary targets for your marketing efforts.
Only market to other networkers because these are the people actively buying what you sell!

Opportunity leads are typically opportunity seekers, which is different than an opportunity buyer.

Network marketers are 'opportunity buyers'!
A business seeker is nothing more than someone who filled out a survey and raised their hand to say "I would like to earn extra money."

That's it... And that's no different than me saying, "I would like to play professional baseball."
That doesn't not mean I have the skill set, desire, and ability to actually play pro baseball right?
So we are looking for people who already play the game.

Personally, I never buy opportunity leads anymore and if I were, then I wouldn't market my primary business to them first. I'd market a front-end retail information product like Magnetic Sponsoring and myself as a leader.

This will help me generate instant cash-flow to pay for the lead costs and saves me a lot of time because it helps me instantly identify who’s truly serious about building a business and who isn’t.
Ok, our second target market consists of product customers. Because most people are in a nutrition based opportunity, we'll use that as an example.

Most people would think that their target market consists of people who have health issues.
But we want to get more specific than that.

How about people who have health concerns, and who actually spend money each month on health products... These people are your TRUE target market.

Just remember the difference between people who simply inquire about your offer, and those who are already spending money on something similar.

So how do you find people in these two categories?
Well that’s easy these days thanks to the internet.

For example, in the MLM Traffic Formula course, we teach you how to set up an entire marketing and lead generation campaign using articles, online press-releases, search engine placement, and pay-per-click.

Pay-Per-Click is my personal favorite because it allows me to show my advertisements just to the people who are actively looking for what I’m promoting.

This is called "target marketing, and it's the foundation of your marketing efforts.
Now when it comes to finding other network marketers, a lot of people ask me about genealogy lists. These are distributor lists of network marketers from their company or upline who have gone out of business or left the industry.

These are obviously targeted lists, but you’re left with the problem of how to contact them.
You can’t email the list because they didn’t opt-into your list, which means your only other option is to call them.

Personally, I didn't get into MLM to make 100-300 cold calls a day. That's what I did in my corporate days.

So, I found a way to get networkers to call me and this is what I teach others how to do in Magnetic Sponsoring Course.

In the last 60 days alone, over 15,326 network marketers have contacted me and I didn't have to lift a finger. It's not hard to do. It just isn't taught by anyone because they want everything to be '3rd grade duplicatable'.

In the end, the best way to reach out and get in front of other networkers is to advertise, but you need to use Magnetic Sponsoring strategies, or you’ll go broke faster than you can imagine.
We'll talk more about this later, but let’s change gears for a minute and dive into a little bit about prospect psychology…

Have you ever wondered why people say no to you and your offers?
Did you ever have a great discussion with someone who was really interested, yet you could never get them back on the phone?

Well, here’s why that happens and how to prevent it…

Find out these details tomorrow in video number 4.
See you then,
